UTEP men’s golf senior Aaron Terrazas was named the Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week after displaying a solid effort at the 43rd John Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 21-23 in Lihu’e, Hawai’i.
The Mexico City, Mexico, product finished tied for fourth after shooting 70-67-72—209 (-7) during the three-day event at Wailua Municipal Golf Course (par 72/6,991 yards). Terrazas tallied 13 birdies and an eagle, while finishing three strokes behind the winner.
Terrazas shot 2-under par on day one, ranking ninth. On day two, Terrazas shot up six spots to tie for second after firing a 67 that included eagling out hole no. 15 (par 4) from 125 yards out and entering the third round one stroke behind the leader.
Terrazas opened the third round with a birdy at hole no. 10 and, after shooting par the next eight holes, made a move to first place on the leaderboard following back-to-back birdies at holes no. 1 and no. 2.
For Terrazas, it’s his first outright golfer of the week honor after being named C-USA Men’s Co-Golfer of the Week on Oct. 24 following an outright championship at the Pepsi-Cola Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. Oct. 20-21. Terrazas penciled in his first collegiate tournament victory the week before at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate when he was co-champion.
Terrazas has competed in seven tournaments (20 rounds) during the 2018-19 campaign and leads the team with a 71.6 stoke average.
The Miners and Terrazas will return to the links on March 15-16 at the GCU Invitational at GCU Golf Course.
