In Kevin Baker’s second season at UTEP, the Miners are hoping to take Conference USA by storm. They’ve called in help from all over the globe to do it.
UTEP has five international players on its roster for 2018-19; Zuzanna Puc from Poland; Katarina Zec from Serbia; Neidy Ocuane from Mozambique; Sabine Lipe from Latvia; and Conchi Satorre from Spain.
Each of them brings a different, unique skill set to the Miners that makes UTEP a threat every night.
“We have people that can do different things different ways. and it just makes it beautiful, beautiful basketball,” Ocuane said.
Baker has adjusted his system to fit his versatile players that have traveled from all over the globe to play in El Paso.
“We play a little more wide open, a little more open the floor, and let them do what they’re good at which is get to the rim off the dribble or shoot from the perimeter,” Baker said.
Though they may not all speak the same language, every time they step on the floor, the Miners abide by its international players’ anthem.
“On the court we speak the same language,” Ocuane said.
