UTEP women’s basketball opens year two under Baker

Basketball season is officially underway in the Borderland, as the UTEP women’s basketball team got back on the court for the first time this afternoon in preparation for teh 2018-19 season.

The Miners return four letter winners from last season’s 17-win team in Kevin Baker’s first year at the helm. Those 17 wins are the most ever for a first-year head coach at UTEP.

Baker’s crew has a talented group of newcomers coming in, and with everyone more comfortable in year two, they think big things are possible.

“A year ago I was learning everything. I was learning where the gym was, where the cafeteria was, where’s everything,” Baker said. “Now being around for a year and knowing what El Paso is all about, and UTEP is all about and certainly the direction of our program, that makes my job a lot easier and certainly a lot more fun.”

The Miners have a pair of exhibition games, before opening the regular season November 10 at home against Alcorn State.
