UTEP Running Back Aaron Jones is out for the season. Jones has a torn ligament in his right ankle. Jones was helped off the field in the second quarter of the game against Texas Tech September 12.
During his Sophomore season, Jones was named to the Second-team All-Conference USA. He started 12 games and missed one due to injury. Jones led the team with 1,321 rushing yards. This is the 4th best single-season total in program history.
Jones is an El Paso native and previously played at Burges High School.
UTEP head coach Sean Kugler said the passing game must improve, and challenged the receivers to step up their game.
UTEP junior receiver Jaquan White told NC9, “Well this week with Aaron Jones out, Coach Kugler came to us and said you guys are all going to improve this week, like I said he needs us to step uand make these plays, so we came out here today on a mission.” UTEP senior receiver Autrey Golden added, “Yeah especially with Aaron going down, it puts a lot of pressure on our skill guys but I am more than confident that everybody can step up, stay poised and confident and get the job done.”
6:00pm Saturday, UTEP is at I-10 rival New Mexico State to be played at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
