The UTEP football team will kick off its spring practice slate on March 5 starting at 7:50 a.m. MT at Glory Field.
The Miners will practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday from March 5-April 11. The team will have a week off from March 12-18 for spring break. The team will conclude the spring season with the annual spring game on April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Sun Bowl.
The Miners will enter the 2018 season returning 51 letterwinners and 15 starters (7 offense/6 defense/2 special teams).
Leading the way for UTEP’s defense are cornerbacks Nik Needham and Kalon Beverly. Needham is a three-year starter for the Miners and earned All-Conference USA honorable mention last season. The senior has recorded 24 pass breakups during his career, which rates him tied for second on the program’s all-time list. Beverly is a three-year starter who recorded a career-high 44 tackles last season. Beverly added eight pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
On offense, center Derron Gatewood will pave the way for the Miners. The senior is a two-year starter and is joined by returning starter Ruben Guerra. Guerra played in 11 contests and made eight starts at the right tackle position.
