UTEP men’s basketball signee Roderick Williams was an ESPN Top 20 recruit out of Price High School and East LA College in California.  He signed to play at UTEP this past October, but Williams only spent 30 hours on campus this summer.  UTEP head coach Tim Floyd said Williams spoke to God, and decided he must return to California.

“He had hoped he had not inconvenienced us, but he had prayed to God and he was returning to LA to finish his college career, and young people sometimes chance their minds, so we were holding out hope that it might change but we have had no communication with him from that point on,” said coach Tim Floyd. “We were hoping he would have another conversation with God and come back, but that didn’t happen.”

The 6’6, 220 pound combo forward/guard averaged 15 points and eight rebounds in his senior year. He led Price High School in scoring in back-to-back seasons, and was an honor student in high school.

Williams picked UTEP over Portland, and VCU.
