Stanford wins back-and-forth Sun Bowl battle over Pitt

Sun Bowl

The Stanford Cardinal defeated Pitt 14-13 in the 85th annual Hyundai Sun Bowl thanks to its senior running back.

However, it was Cameron Scarlett who led the way, not Bryce Love, who skipped the bowl game.

Scarlett jumped on a fumble in the end zone to give Stanford a one-point lead, 14-13, early in the fourth quarter. It was the senior running back’s second score of the day.

After a scoreless first quarter, Pitt took a 10-7 lead into halftime and added a field goal in the third quarter.

Once Stanford scored the go-ahead touchdown, Pitt desperately tried to get back into scoring position. The Panthers got into field goal range midway through the fourth, but the attempt went wide-right.

However, the Cardinal defense held up and walked out of El Paso with a victory.
