Monday’s Hyundai Sun Bowl game will feature strength against strength: Pitt’s rushing attack versus Stanford’s linebackers. The Cardinal will be led by fifth year senior Bobby Okereke, who can fly all over the football field.
Okereke played on special teams in both his freshman and sophomore seasons, but has seen his role expand over the course of the last three years.
“I’m very comfortable in this system,” said Okereke. “I’ve been here for five years, so I understand the playbook a lot. I’m really comfortable running sideline to sideline and I’ve improved on my tackling.”
Okereke has totaled 91 tackles this season including 50 solo tackles. According to Stanford head coach David Shaw, Okereke is just one of those guys who has a nose for the football.
“He makes a lot of plays in the run game and the pass game,” said Shaw. “He always does the right thing. He’s great with the young guys in holding them to a higher standard.”
In order to get their second win in three years at the Hyundai Sun Bowl, Stanford must slow down both of Pitt’s 1,000-yard backs. The Cardinal will lean heavily on Okereke to get the job done.
