This year’s Hyundai Sun Bowl matchup is an intriguing one on paper. Stanford and Pitt both plan to run the football, but both offenses will take some shots down the field in the passing game. The Panthers gameplan is to get junior wide receiver Maurice Ffrench the football in any fashion.
Ffrench has played a key role in the Pitt offense as an all-purpose player. He can beat you as a receiver, runner, and in the return game.
‘He can take a jet sweep to the house and he can take a kickoff to the house,” said Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi. “He has gotten so much better as a route runner. That’s the most impressive thing. We knew he could run with the football. We have to get him his touches in the passing game and in the run game.”
Over the course of the season, Ffrench has been asked to do more and more in the offense. He has six receiving touchdowns, two on the ground, and another two as a kick returner.
“It would be just having a bigger role in the offense,” said Ffrench It’s being able to have a chance to make a play for the team and just taking advantage of every opportunity I get.”
The goal for the Panthers in Monday’s game against Stanford might be to run the football, but the explosiveness of Ffrench could be what gets Pitt a win in the Sun Bowl.
