San Elizario looks to repeat as state champs

Sports

The San Elizario boys soccer team has experience on their side. The Eagles know all about making a run at a state title. Afterall, they return most of their team from last year’s state championship team.

The Eagles will play Argyle in the Regional Semifinals on Friday at Northwest ISD Stadium in Justin, Texas. A win would send San Elizario the Regional Finals.

“Every year brings its own challenges,” said head coach Max Sappenfield. “Every team has its own chemistry. It’s a project and a challenge to get the best out of each group.”

In the playoffs, San Elizario has outscored their opponents 14-0. A lot of the credit goes to the leadership on this team.

“We have most of our team back from last year,” said senior striker Eric Valdez. “I think that experience will definitely help us reach the state championship again.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. MDT on Friday.
