NM State baseball opens season Friday with sky-high expectations

Fresh off of 2018’s trip to an NCAA Regional, preseason WAC favorite New Mexico State will open the 2019 campaign on Friday, with the first of a four-game series at home against Texas Southern.

WAC preseason pitcher of the year Brock Whittlesey will get the ball on Friday at The ‘Skew for the Aggies, after a banner year as NMSU’s closer a year ago. Sophomore Nick Gonzales is also a preseason all-American at second base, anchoring a loaded NMSU infield.

First pitch for Friday’s opener is at 4 p.m. at The ‘Skew in Las Cruces. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m., before wrapping up the series on Sunday at noon.
