One of El Paso’s all-time leading scorers has made his college commitment. Burges High School standout Tristen Newton taking to Twitter to announce he will play his college basketball at East Carolina University.
Newton led the Mustangs to the District 1-5A championship this past season and was one of the leading scorers in the entire country, averaging 37.4 points per game. The do-it-all guard eclipsed 3,000 career points before seeing his senior season come to an end with a playoff loss to Eastlake.
Newton is cousins with Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Alvin Jones. His older brother, Jawaun Newton, plays college basketball at the University of Evansville.
Last season, the Pirates went 10-21 and finished 11th in the American Athletic Conference.
