The 2019 NFL Draft from Nashville, Tennessee is officially underway. Round 1 taking place on Friday night with a couple surprises, but the focus for a handful of local players will be on Friday and Saturday for rounds 2-7.

New Mexico State linebacker Terrill Hanks has been rising on NFL Draft boards across the league and is projected to be selected between rounds 3-5. Hanks participated in the Senior Bowl in January and the NFL Combine in February.

“Honestly, I haven’t been getting sleep all week,” said Hanks. “I just feel like it’s Christmas around the corner. I feel like a little kid again and it’s great. I’m truly humbled for this experience and to have this opportunity. It’s great to be able to represent New Mexico State and it’s finally here.”

Hanks recorded over 100 total tackles this past season for the third time in his NMSU career. He registered 11 career sacks and eight career interceptions.

The Miami, Florida native has had a number of pre-draft visits and individual workouts throughout the draft process.

“I’ve taken visits to Minnesota {Vikings}, Houston Texans, and San Francisco {49ers},” said Hanks. “I’ve had private workouts with the {Miami} Dolphins, Houston Texans, the {New York} Jets, and the {Dallas} Cowboys. It has all been great and I’m truly grateful for this opportunity.”

When Hanks comes off the board, it will be the second consecutive year an NMSU Aggie has been selected in the NFL Draft. Wide receiver Jaleel Scott was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round (pick no. 132) of the 2018 NFL Draft.
