Franklin tops Arlington Bowie in OT, advances to Regional Quarterfinals

Sports

The Franklin girls basketball team is not ready to go home just yet. Three days after beating Midland Lee in overtime to start their playoff run, the Cougars won in overtime once again to capture the Area championship, 40-36 over Arlington Bowie.

Franklin was led by senior Kara Marcantel, who poured in a game-high 18 points in the win, but her shot at the buzzer at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime is what everyone will be talking about on Saturday. UTEP signee Katia Gallegos added 12 points for Franklin.

With the win, the Cougars advance to the Class 6A Regional Quarterfinals where they will meet Amarillo Tascosa next week.
