Former El Paso Chihuahuas 1st baseman Cody Decker returned to the Sun City this weekend and hosted a pair of hitting clinics at Southwest University Park on Sunday.
Now in his 11th professional season, Decker is currently in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, but fell in love with El Paso when he played for the Chihuahuas and returns periodically. He felt it was important to impart his wisdom on to the younger generation of baseball players.
“Try to be the best version of yourself, and be yourself,” Decker said. “What works for one hitter doesn’t necessarily work for another hitter. It’s just a matter of finding what’s right for the particular person. Everyone is trying to accomplish the same goal at the plate, but there are so many different routes to accomplish it.”
Decker is in El Paso for a screening of the documentary Heading Home, about Israel’s national baseball team that played in the World Baseball Classic. Decker himself got the chance to play for the team.
