Less than 24 hours after Lamont Smith’s resignation as UTEP men’s basketball assistant coach, the Miners have lost another assistant coach. Brian Burton will not return to the Miners bench in 2019-2020, according to Burton’s Twitter post on Thursday.
Burton says this was a decision made by head coach Rodney Terry and is in no way connected to Smith’s resignation, after Smith was implicated in the college admissions scandal.
“Coach Terry called me in for a meeting where he informed me that he would not have me back as his assistant coach at UTEP,“ said Burton in his post to social media.
Burton spent the 2018-2019 season as the director of basketball operations at Fresno State under Terry.
As it stands, UTEP appears to be searching to replace two assistant coaches on Terry’s staff.
