Burges captures McDonald’s Classic Basketball Tournament championship

The Burges boys basketball team continues to power through their schedule. The Mustangs went 5-0 in this week’s McDonald’s Classic Basketball Tournament, capturing the tournament championship.

Burges came from behind to beat Roosevelt out of San Antonio, 66-57, in a back-and-forth battle on Saturday at Del Valle High School. Senior guard Tristen Newton collected a game-high 43 points in the win and was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

The Mustangs improve to 11-3 (2-0) on the season and will now gear up for their district slate. Burges will host Chapin (7-6, 0-2) on Tuesday night.
