Bel Air looks to net state title

The Bel Air boys soccer team has gone where no other Bel Air boys soccer team has gone before: State. The Highlanders are making their first appearance in the UIL Soccer State Championships in program history this weekend.

“We come early, we train, and we always train to win,” said head coach Sergio Delgado. “We haven’t done anything differently from other years. I think this team has had more hunger to reach this goal.”

Bel Air will play Valley View on Thursday in Georgetown with a trip to the state title game on the line. The Highlanders’ gameplan is to keep their game simple.

“The main key is to play hard,” said junior defenseman Jamil Arroyo. “We will never quit, we’ll run, keep running, and play as a team.”

The Highlanders have to 20 consecutive games coming into the state tournament, outscoring their opponents 19-2 in the playoffs.

Thursday’s match is scheduled for 4 p.m. MDT.
