After winning his first ever collegiate tournament, UTEP sophomore Oskar Ambrosius was named Conference USA Co-Golfer of the Week as announced by league officials Wednesday afternoon. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World Headwear.

Ambrosius shared the honor with Florida Atlantic’s Sully Zagerman.

Ambrosius (70-71-68—209) played consistent golf during the two-day event at the Bearkat Invitational April 1-2. After 18 holes played on Tuesday, the native of Viborg, Denmark, found himself in tie with Stephen F. Austin’s Angelo Leyvani (69-72-68—209) at 7-under par. Ambrosius birdied on a one-hole playoff at 18 to defeat Leyvani to earn the championship plaque.

Ambrosius’s efforts helped UTEP finish in second place out of 15 schools competing at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club (par 72/6,756 yards) in Montgomery, Texas.

Ambrosius recorded 15 birdies, the second most by a player in the tournament, including six during the third round. He also shot 8-under par on par 5 holes during the successful outing.

Ambrosius is the second Miner to earn a golfer of the week honor this season. Teammate Aaron Terrazas was named co-golfer of the week on Oct. 24, while he earned his second on Feb. 27 as C-USA Golfer of the Week.

Ambrosius and the Miners will compete at the 73rd Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf April 15-17 in Santa Cruz, Calif., at Pasatiempo Golf Club hosted by San Jose State. The three-day tournament will be televised on the GOLF Channel.
