Aguilar named San Elizario head football coach

It’s a new era of San Elizario High School football. After finishing the 2017 season winless (0-10), the Eagles have made a change in leadership. Ray Aguilar Jr. will take over the program as head coach.

Aguilar is a Coronado High School graduate and spent last season as an assistant at Klein Forest High School in Houston, Texas. He has also spent time as a defensive analyst at UTEP under Mike Price, as well as at Texas under Mack Brown.

Aguilar tells KTSM the opportunity to come back home to El Paso, as well as the chance to coach in a community like San Elizario was too good to pass up.

“There’s a lot of upside,” said Aguilar. “Looking at all of their {San Elizario High School} athletic programs and the success they’ve had, I know the support is there in this community. We are going to look to build the program around that and make San Eli football an exciting and engaging place to be.”

The Eagles will open the season on Friday, August 31 against the Riverside Rangers.
