Las Cruces, NM - The Western Athletic Conference announced its baseball players of the week on Monday morning. Following a historic weekend in a series sweep of Mississippi Valley State the Aggies saw Noah Haupt and Kyle Bradish earn WAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Haupt was instrumental in the Aggies’ record-setting weekend, totaling 11 runs and 15 RBIs on the week. Haupt was 11-for-15 from the plate with six extra-base hits, posting a .611 batting average to go along with a 1.222 slugging percentage and .625 on-base percentage.
The freshman’s biggest game came in NM State’s 39-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Friday night, going 6-for-7 with a double, two home runs, six runs scored and 10 RBIs. He finished the week with three doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Bradish kept rolling with his second straight gem in as many starts on Friday night against MVSU. He struck out 12 batters and walked just two while allowing two hits over 6.0 shutout innings. Earning the win to improve to 2-0 on the season, the junior has struck out 23 batters in 11.1 innings pitched and has allowed just one run on four hits for a 0.79 ERA.
This is now the third player of the week honor given to an NM State baseball player in the first two weeks of the season with outfielder Marcus Still being named WAC Hitter of the Week on Feb. 19.
NM State was able to bounce back from a midweek loss to No. 3 Texas Tech when the team returned home for the three-game weekend series against Mississippi Valley State. NM State swept the series and outscored the Delta Devils 76-4.
This offensive explosion featured a 39-0 win on Friday which set a school and WAC single-game record for runs scored and was the fourth largest margin of victory in NCAA history.
New Mexico State baseball now hits the road for a midweek clash with Arizona on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. MT in Tucson, Ariz. The game can be heard on 99.5 FM Zia Country with Adam Young on the call.
