Aggies in first after day one at WAC Outdoor Championships

New Mexico State track and field began its run at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Hal Wing Track & Field on Thursday. Taniya Mitchell and Kayli Farmer took home individual titles, helping the Aggies reach first place with 46 points after the first day of competition.


Mitchell brought home the conference title in hammer throw, posting a program best mark of 60.96m (200-00). Yemisi Oroyinyin (54.25m, 178-00) took home second while Alyssa Watkins (52.96m, 173-9) came in third.


Farmer won the javelin with a season-best throw of 45.39m (148-11). Andi Harrelson recorded a mark of 40.59m (133-2) to take fourth in the event. Alyssa Covarrubia came in sixth place, posting a throw of 39.08m (128-2).


In the 10,000m Jess Dominguez was the lone Aggie competing in the event and the sophomore came in fifth place, clocking in at 37:01.24 for the race.


The championship meet continues with field events at 2:30 p.m. MT on Friday. Running events start at 3:30 p.m. with live streaming available on Facebook Live.
