Ysleta and Parkland, both undefeated, are facing off in a district clash Friday night in KTSM’s 9OT Game of the Week.

The Matadors and Indians both have a lot at stake, and for one family, bragging rights are on the line.
While the teams battle it out on the field, Ruben and Amy Alarcon — the respective assistant principals of Parkland and Ysleta high schools — are facing off at home.
“We know we’re both having good years, unfortunately someone is going to have to lose and that’s going to be hard, but…next week we’ll play other schools and hopefully we’ll just continue winning,” Ruben Alarcon tells KTSM.
The couple has two daughters, who make sure to reflect a neutral sense of pride.
“I even asked my oldest one, ‘Who do you think is going to win?’ and she said, ‘Oh, it’s tough,'” he said. “She didn’t want to answer the question because she doesn’t want to choose a side right now, but it’s exciting for them and we’ll definitely dress them neutral that day.”
Although one team will get its first loss of the season Friday night, the Alarcons says they’ll remain proud regardless.
“Win or lose, no matter who comes out victorious, our students are putting it all on the line and we are really proud of them,” Amy Alarcon said.
