The American Teen has graduated to his sophomore album. That’s right, El Paso native, Khalid, released his long-anticipated full-length album, Free Spirit Friday morning. It follows his hit breakout record, American Teen, which was released in March 2017.

Khalid celebrated Thursday with six nominations for the Billboard Music Awards. The nominations include Top R&B Album for American Teen, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top Radio Song and Top Collaboration for “Love Lies” with Normani and Top R&B song for “Better” which was featured on his EP  Sun City.

The Billboard awards will air May 1 at 6 p.m. on NBC/ KTSM 9 News.

Khalid went on to perform “Talk” on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Thursday night.

The 16-track full-length record includes “Better” and “Saturday Nights” which were previously featured on the Sun City EP. Khalid has become known for his collaboration with other artists, but Free Spirit only features one collaboration – “Outta My Head” with John Mayer.

The 23-date Free Spirit Tour kicks off June 20 in Glendale, Arizona and wraps up August 17 in Miami, Florida. El Paso is not currently listed in his tour dates. The last time Khalid played in El Paso, he sold out two shows at the Don Haskins Center on September 14 and September 15 (a clear nod to the 9.15) respectively.
