A first-of-its-kind swimming pool is now open in West El Paso!
The City held a grand opening ceremony for the Westside Natatorium Saturday morning.
The $15.5 million facility features an Olympic-sized pool, aquatic obstacle course, and a floating fitness mat.
It also includes seating for approximately 780 spectators, and movable bleachers along the deck area provide additional seating for up to 224 competitors.
The indoor pool spans about 50 meters, which City officials say will offer local swim teams a prime spot to train and, hopefully, attract out of town swim teams for competitions.
Stacey Wright, the Community Center Supervisor with the City of El Paso, tells KTSM the new facility is a game changer for El Paso.
“It means a lot for the swim teams so they can have high quality meets locally where they can hopefully achieve fast times that will allow them to compete out of town,” Wright said.
The center is a part of the 2012 Quality of Life Bond.
