“Big changes coming to I-10 East this Sunday that people should know about”, says Go 10 Senior Mobility Coordinator Noemi Rojas.
I-10 East at Sunland Park will be closing completely, this means the people who will be traveling east will have to exit at Sunland Park, go down Mesa and use Executive to get back on I-10. This is all set to begin Sunday April 2nd.
Another part of the closure will be the underpass on-ramp to I-10 East, this will be a permanent closure and will mostly affect drivers coming from Doniphan. At noon on Sunday drivers will be able to access the highway using Sunland Park but they’ll have to do it from the traffic light, rather than the underpass.
At 3:00 A.M on Sunday, all of I-10 East will closed and nobody will be able to access I-10 East but by noon one lane will be open. Then at 5:00 PM, all the lanes will re-open. The I-10 East lanes at Sunland Park will all be new.
According to TxDOT, the reason for these upcoming closures is that traffic can be switched off of the existing eastbound lanes and into the new ones.
