Police have identified the woman who died in a head-on collision that closed off Doniphan Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Evangeline Slavik, 68, died at the scene of the crash when her 2008 BMW veered into oncoming traffic and hit a 1994 Chevrolet Utility truck at about 12:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of Doniphan.

An El Paso Police Department news release said investigators believe she was undergoing some type of medical distress prior to the crash.

The truck was being driven by David Tovar, 30, who was taken to University Medica Center with serious injuries. His passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The department’s Special Traffic Investigations unit is still working on the case.
