Traffic closures from Go-10 & I-10 Connect Project this weekend

Traffic closures can be expected this weekend from current and new TxDot projects.

The Go-10 Project is scheduled to close all exit and entrance ramps at I-10 and North Mesa for
hours starting at 3 a.m. on Sunday and ending at 6 a.m. early Monday.

Beause of this, both directions of North Mesa Street will also close for the same time frame between Remcon and Osborne.

Crews will be moving concrete barriers, shifting lanes and striping. Once the closure lifts Monday morning, eastbound traffic on Mesa will be traveling on the permanent lanes of Mesa.

You may know the Lincoln Park area in South Central El Paso for its iconic murals, which some will be removed as part of a big construction project. Officials with TxDOT said it’s all for the benefit of drivers in the future.

The ‘I-10 Connect Project’ will be under construction at the US 54 and I-10 interchange. It will extend from I-10 to Loop 375 and is expected to provide access to drivers to the Bridge of the Americas from I-10. These main highways centered in the spaghetti bowl area.

TxDOT officials said by improving access between I-10 and Loop 375, it will let drivers take the loop as an alternate route whenever I-10 is under major construction in those areas.

Officials also said the project is the first in El Paso to use “Smart Work Zone Technology” which will help drivers know where to go if they’re already on the road.

“All of the detours will be signed and will have information out there to get the public around,” TxDOT El Paso District Engineer Bob Bielek told KTSM.

During these closures, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes like Paisano Drive, Alameda Avenue, or Montana Avenue.

“We will try to keep those to a minimum, but the public should understand that if that is the area that they travel through normally, find some alternatives and have them in your back pocket for those times when it’s closed,” Bielek said.

The $96 million project is expected to be completed in three years.
