Another long road closure will soon go into effect on a major section of I-10.

Beginning at 3 a.m. on Sunday, the following roadways will be shut down for 27 hours:

  • I-10 East will be closed to all traffic at US 54
    • Detour: Eastbound traffic on I-10 will take Exit 22A (Loop 478/Copia Street), continue east on Gateway Boulevard East, and re-enter I-10 east of Raynolds Street.
  • The on-ramp which connects Gateway Boulevard East to I-10 East to east of Loop 478 (Copia Street) will be closed to all traffic.

The roadways are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday.

This is the first 27-hour closure as part of TxDOT’s newly-implemented “I-10 Connect Project”, which launched earlier this year.

According to a news release, crews will remove old pavement, place new pavement, re-stripe travel lanes, and place safety barriers during the closure.

Officials say a similar 27-hour closure of the freeway’s westbound lanes is set to take place in the coming weeks.
