Beginning Monday, El Paso Water will close a portion of George Dieter at Montwood to allow crews to replace a steel pipe with a larger plastic one.
Officials say the replacement will prevent corrosion of the pipes.
“We have seen significant corrosion of metal water pipes at key intersections along George Dieter, and we are proactively replacing them to improve reliability and prevent water loss that could come from leaks or water main breaks,” said Alan Shubert, Vice President of Operations and Technical Services for El Paso Water.
According to a news release, drivers should anticipate congestion and slowdowns near the construction.
Access to homes and businesses will remain open and water service will not be affected, officials say.
The lane closures are tentatively scheduled through the summer.
