Authorities in Doña Ana County are investigating the discovery of at least three sets of human remains inside a Mesilla Park home.

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s officials say they were called to a home in the 1000 block of Conway Tuesday morning when a woman who was cleaning out the home found what appeared to be human jawbones inside a box.

Detectives say that the home belonged to Gaylord Bird, who died in January and left the home to his neighbor who was starting to clean the home.

The remains appeared to be very old and looked like they had been dug up from an unknown location.

The New Mexico Office of The Medical Examiner has taken the remains in an attempt to identify them and determine if there is any reason to suspect criminal activity in the case.
