The Deployment Club

El Paso, Texas (KTSM) - At General Colin Powell Elementary School, there is a club to help the children of our service men and women who are deployed.

It's called the Deployment Club. In short, it's a support group for children whose families can't always be together because of their loved ones service to our country.

Linda Kay Burns, a school  counselor at Powell, started the club three years ago. She says,  "this is such a great way to build friendships and resiliency in our little military students." Her hope is that other schools in the area will start the same program.

The club meets every Tuesday.  Currently there are 18 students.  One girl has mom and dad deployed.  At their latest meeting,  the group made Valentine Cards for each other.

The Deployment Club offers support, at a time when it might be hard to find.
