EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The City of Las Cruces has high hopes that the Metro Verde Splash Pad will reopen as early as Saturday.
According to city officials, the splash pad was closed after they found multiple leaks in multiple water lines underneath.
In order to make repairs to those water lines, city workers and an outside contractor had to dig under the cement.
Officials tell KTSM that they only repair left is to add a rubber surface to the floor of the splash pad.
The splash pad was supposed to open Memorial Day weekend, but city officials say they are hoping to be done with repairs as early as Saturday and as late as next Wednesday.
"We're looking at the possibility in the future, there's no set date or set project, but maybe at Apodaca Park or maybe other areas around the city," said Phil Catanach the City of Las Cruces' Recreation Administrator about the possibility of more splash pads in the area.
Catanach also says the Downtown Plaza de Las Cruces splash pad is still open as well as multiple pools around the city.
