Three of the newest members of Texas DPS are furry and four-legged.

Three trooper and canine teams graduated from an eight-week training program on Friday, according to a news release.

Officials say the newly-trained dogs — whose breeds include Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, and Malaherd — will be used for drug detection.

“We are proud that these canine officers are officially joining our ranks,” Director Steven McCraw said, “and we are confident that these expertly-trained teams will work together, following their instincts, to help make Texas a safer place.”

The dogs will join 42 other DPS teams stationed throughout the state.
