UPDATE: Suspect surrenders after SWAT standoff in Far East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A man surrendered to El Paso police after an early Thursday morning SWAT standoff in far east El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.

Officials said the SWAT standoff happened at a home located on the 14100 block of Tierra Delfin near Edgemere. Authorities said it began as a Burglary Habitation in progress.

According to police, the suspect broke into the home at around 3 a.m. The homeowner, who was not at the house at the time, notified police after receiving an alert from his home security system.

Police arrived at the home and made contact with the suspect. After hours of silence, the man later surrounded to authorities at around 8 a.m, EPPD said.

Investigators later determined that the man had a warrant for his arrest by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect was wanted for a Family Violence offense.

EPPD said the investigation is ongoing and a motive is not known at this time. However, investigators said they do not believe the crime was random.

No one else was inside of the home during the SWAT standoff.
