On Saturday, July 22, kids from across El Paso and Juarez will swim and run to the finish line at Sun City Splash & Dash. This exciting swim-run event for youth 7-15 years old will take place Saturday Ascarate Pool and Park.  Sun City Splash & Dash is part of USA Triathlon’s 2017 National Youth Aquathlon Series.  It’s designed to introduce participants to the exciting world of multisport racing and promote healthy, active living.

Sun City Splash & Dash has two distances: participants 7-10 years old swim 100 meters and run 1km (0.6 mi), and participants 11-15 years old swim 200 meters and run 2.25km (1.4mi).  The race begins with the swim portion in Ascarate Pool.  Participants then run around Ascarate Lake on a protected gravel path. After crossing the finish line and receiving their finisher medals, kids and families are invited to swim and enjoy the family pool party after the race, which will continue until 11am.

Sun City Splash & Dash benefits KCOS-TV, El Paso’s non-profit, community-owned and operated public television station.  “We are proud and grateful to work with Race El Paso to promote education and active living to kids and parents,” said KCOS General Manager and CEO Emily Martin Loya. “Education is among our top pillars at KCOS, and we are excited to be a part of this incredible event.”

KCOS’s own Nature Cat will be on hand to take photos and encourage participants. Nature Cat follows Fred, a house cat who dreams of exploring the great outdoors. In each episode, once his family leaves for the day, Fred transforms into Nature Cat, backyard explorer extraordinaire!

Registration for Sun City Splash & Dash is $25, and scholarships are available for participants requesting financial assistance.  Registration includes a race shirt, goodie bag, swim cap, finisher medal, post-race snacks and drinks, and family pool party.
