State Fire Marshal: Arson was cause of deadly Sunland Park house fire

The cause of Thursday’s deadly house fire in Sunland Park was arson, the State Marshal’s Office announced Saturday afternoon.

As KTSM previously reported, it broke out early Thursday morning on the 100 block of Mesquite.

Marisa Munoz, 8, died, but investigators say her cause of death is still unknown. 

A fifth-grade Desert View student, Julian Duran, and seventh-grade Santa Teresa Middle School student, Jasmine Valenzuela, were both burned in the fire and flown to a Burn Center in Lubbock.

Investigators are looking for those responsible for the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sunland Park Police Department at (575) 589-2225 or Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority (MRVDA) non-emergency number at (575) 526-0795 during weekend hours.
