The Socorro Independent School District is holding a meeting for the media Friday morning to give an update on their 2017 bond.

The $448.5 million series of projects was approved by the SISD Board of Trustees in August. It will include the addition of several new schools: A new middle school and two elementary schools.

It includes $135 million for the reconstruction of Socorro High School. More than $40 million for improvements to Montwood High School.

Also there will be athletic improvements including a new football and soccer facility that would accommodate up to 8-thousand spectators.

At today’s meeting the District will discuss the facts and figures surrounding the Bond and explain more about the impacts to taxes.

According to the district’s website, a homeowner in the district whose property is worth 100-thousand dollars would see an increase of about 106 dollars per year in their property tax bill.

The meeting for the media will be at the District Services Center on Rojas at 11:30 a.m.
