The Hospitals of Providence Blood Bank and Donation Center is issuing an urgent call for blood platelet donations, it announced in a news release Monday.
The donated platelets will help adult and pediatric oncology and neo-natal patients “in need of this lifesaving product”, according to the hospital.
Those interested in donating must be 17 years of age of older, weigh more than 110 pounds, and be in healthy condition.
The Hospitals of Providence says its blood bank uses Trima Accel, an instrument that collects platelets based on donors’ weight and platelet counts. It is the only hospital-based Blood Donor Center in the El Paso region.
To make an appointment, donors can call Robin Murphy at (915) 577-6676 or Elisa Camacho at (915) 577-7305. Appointments can be made from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but the hospital will accommodate those who need different schedules.
