Veteran Job fair using new technology to make the job search easier

Helping veteran’s find jobs, that’s the goal of one job fair being held on Fort Biss Thursday. The job fair is being held by MilitaryRecruit, who just launched in partnership with Google a newly designed job search to help match veterans with the best job opportunity for them.

Veterans and military spouses can use this new Google search tool to find civilian employment opportunities in the Fort Bliss area. Something that U.S. Army Veteran and event director Allen Von Plinsky said he wishes he had access to when he got out of the Army.

That service wasn’t available to us, you know specifically designed to look at my background and gear it towards other jobs out there, I was at the whim of going to these job fairs and honestly creating my own paths and stuff like that, and so we’ve kind of taken a lot of the hardship out of it honestly so it’s really an awesome tool, said Plinsky

Hundreds of Veterans have already signed up for Thursday’s job fair. Among the Veterans include Soldiers, Airman, Marines, Coast Guardsman, Sailors, and Veteran spouses.

Plinsky suggests Veterans use the job search tool prior to attending the job fair. This allows them to easily preview the civilian job opportunities that will be available to them beforehand it will help match them to the best opportunities for their skill set.

No matter what your skill set is its kind of nice to be able to talk to employers about everything, whether your HR if you’re a mechanic, electrician, engineer, or just a combat arms veteran you will have a lot to connect without at these events, said Plinsky

Other than using the job search tool beforehand, RecruitMilitary has some tips for veterans attending to help veterans land the job at Thursday’s fair.

Visit every company to find the hidden opportunity that might be perfect for you.
Make eye contact and confidently greet each recruiter with a smile and firm handshake.
Get the recruiter’s contact information and ask about the best way to follow-up.
Within 24 hours, follow-up with every company that interests you.

The event will be held Thursday, March 21 at Centennial Banquet Center at Fort Bliss from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. It’s not too late to sign up however if your unable to attend that recruiting job search tool is available to all veterans to help make the search for a job after serving a little easier.
