More than 8,000 athletes laced up for this year’s Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range early Sunday morning.
The 26.2-mile march honors the heroic men and women who put their lives on the line defending the Philippine Islands during World War II.
Service members and civilians from all across the world competed in the event. Some say it’s one more way to pay respect those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
“It’s primarily to honor the members who served and it’s just in their memory, the individuals who came before us,” Sr. Master Sgt. Norma Przyborowski said, “and that’s what keeps me motivated to finish today.”
The Bataan Memorial Death March first began in 1989.
Congratulations to everyone who crossed the finish line!
