A Fort Bliss leader has been relieved of her command.
Colonel Shana Peck was charged with driving under the influence in Otero County, New Mexico in August. Court documents show Peck was charged with DWI Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor and/or Drugs (.08 or Above).
Court documents show that officers were called to a crash around 7:30 p.m. on August 11 on HWY 70 near Mescalero. The responding officer documented that Peck failed the field sobriety test and fell several times.
New Mexico State Police transported Peck to the State Police office in Alamogordo where court documents state that three hours after the alleged crash, Peck blew a .13 and .14 on a breathalyzer test. She was booked into the Otero County Detention Center.
Following her arrest, Peck was placed on suspension at Fort Bliss.
On September 13, Peck was replaced by Colonel Issac “Ike” Gipson as the commander of the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
Gipson most recently was the Assistant Chief of Staff (ACoS) for Operations with duty forward deployed in the Combined Air Operations Center at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
According to a spokesperson from the First Armored Division, soldiers from the 11th ADA Brigade have already deployed to the Middle East, with the rest of the team to deploy in the next couple weeks. The deployment will last approximately nine months, with the soldiers expected to return in the summer of 2018.
Gipson’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with a silver Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (with two campaign stars), Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medal, Outstanding Volunteerism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Staff Identification Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
