Several armed Mexican soldiers stopped two American service members during an operation on the U.S. side of the border earlier this month.

According to U.S. military officials, the incident happened on April 13 near Clint.

Officials say five or six Mexican military personnel, carrying what appeared to be assault rifles, stopped the soldiers as they conducted a surveillance mission.

Defense officials say the Mexican soldiers pointed their weapons at the Americans.

One of the U.S. soldiers spoke some Spanish and was able to de-escalate the situation.
