Man charged in alleged East Mesa road rage incident

A 69-year-old Doña Ana County man was arrested Friday morning after authorities suspect he purposefully ran a truck off of the road in an alleged road rage incident.

Robert Quigley, 69, who lives on Doña Ana County’s East Mesa has been charged with nine counts of aggravated assault after victims say he attempted to run them over with their vehicle.

The altercation happened just after 9 a.m. Friday morning when a man and a pregnant woman who were riding in a truck with a small child in the backseat allege that Quigley, who was driving a blue Pontiac, allegedly ran them off the road at Holman Rd. near Shoestring Ranch.

The victims said Quigley then turned around and drive by their truck again, this time hitting the driver’s side door.

At the same time the victims were calling 911 to report that they’d been involved in a hit and run, Quigley all called 911 to report that he’d been involved in a fight after the victim in the case allegedly punched him in the face.

Deputies responding to both incidents were able to connect the two 911 calls and ultimately arrested Quigley for criminal damage to property, child abuse, and nine counts of aggravated assault. He is being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.

The victims in the truck were not charged in the incident.
