Las Cruces man charged with sexual assault of a child

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - A Las Cruces man is facing charges associated with the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl over the weekend.

Keith Jessel, 39, is charged with Criminal Sexual Penetration by Force or Coercion. 

According to court documents Jessel, who is a family friend of the victim, was on the couch with the child on Sunday, Feb. 18. He allegedly began touching the girl inappropriately underneath her clothing.

The girl asked Jessel to stop, but he allegedly did not. Then she asked if she could get up and go to the bathroom. Jessel reportedly denied her first request, but then allowed the girl to move after her second request, documents state.

After going to the bathroom, the girl told her older sister of the alleged sexual assault. The pair told their mother, who in turn, woke up the alleged victim's father. He contacted Doña Ana County Sheriff's Deputies immediately and Jessel was taken into custody.

He is currently being held without bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
