Fort Bliss made history as part of ESPN's Armed Forces Classic event

El Paso, Texas (KTSM) - ESPN hosted its 7th Annual Armed Forces Classic on Fort Bliss Friday night, and also made some history.
 
Fort Bliss soldiers got to enjoy a college basketball game watching Texas play against Arkansas. This game being the first season-opening event in the Continental United States.
 
 
"This is my first time in my 20 years, and this is just awesome. Our soldiers are excited, the command teams are excited about this, it awesome," Senior Career Council Alu Hall with Fort Bliss, "It's going to be aired overseas and my soldiers that are in Qatar, they're actually going to be able to watch the game tonight and are actually staying up late."
 
 
The Classic has been around since 2012 with previous games having taken place in Germany, Korea, Puerto Rico, and Japan. Not only did it spotlight the Borderland, it also showcased the post's recent growth.
 
 
"Fort Bliss is a power of production platform and since we've grown through the base realignment and have grown in the army, we have a lot of great facilities like this one here and we really like to show it off," Bill Ketcherside with Family and MWR Fort Bliss shared

The game lived up to its billing as a classic with Texas earning a two-point victory over Arkansas, 73 - 71.
