First-ever Comic Book Convention Coming to Fort Bliss

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - It's a first for Fort Bliss as they gear up for Soldier Con, the first ever Comic Convention with a car show at Freedom Crossing this weekend, June 9-10. 

Organizers say the entire community is invited to Soldier Con which will include five different events throughout the weekend including the Eat/Sleep/Drift Car Show on Saturday, Gaming, Live Action Role Playing and a Cosplay Contest on Sunday. 

There will be ease of access into Ft. Bliss will and will only require a Driver’s License.

Comic Book Convention

Although this is the first official “Comicon” on Fort Bliss, the Soldier Con Staff is hard at work recruiting talent and vendors to participate in this inaugural event. In addition to comic artists and vendors, there will be a free film festival highlighting amateur talent of various sorts including professional comic books artists Free Isabelo and Rudy Vasquez. A weekend panel is also planned for the event. In addition, Toy expert Johnny Jimenez Jr. (Pawn Stars), will be a featured guest on-hand to sell toys or appraise the public’s toys.

Military Appreciation Car Show

The Eat, Sleep, Drift Car Show will surely bring in the region’s top builds and show-stoppers. Attendees will be able to view different vehicle makes and models. Entrance to the Car Show area is FREE, in addition, there will be plenty of FREE parking, in and around the area, or, families can opt to walk from their residential housing. Featured guest Noel Gugliemi (Noel G.), an American actor known for his roles in The Fast and the Furious and Lowriders will be in the comic convention area.

Cosplay Contest

The Cosplay Contest will be conducted inside the Freedom Crossing Food Court, with a stage and runway.

Gaming Area

Military Gaming Supply will take over the store front once belonging to Toys-R-Us, and fill the facility with a multitude of gaming tables. In addition, they will bring two interactive areas for their Space Ship Simulators (2), where participants can navigate a virtual spaceship on missions.
