City seeks public input for waterparks' themes

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The City of El Paso is preparing to build several new water parks, so officials want to know what El Pasoans want those parks to look like.

On Thursday the City hosted the first in a series of public meetings for the project.

City engineer Sam Rodriguez told NewsChannel 9 city staff members will review all the information they get from the public to come up with themes for each of the five new parks. Rodriguez said, that way, the parks will reflect their respective neighborhoods.

"When they go to these water parks they're going to know, whether its theme is a jungle, or western history, or a fiesta or whatever, they'll be able to relate,” Rodriguez said. “They’ll know they're still in El Paso, and that's what we're looking to create."

Officials said they're aiming to have the designs complete by the end of the summer, begin construction later this year, and open to the public in 2020.

In the meantime, the City will continue to collect opinions from the public on its homepage at www.elpasotexas.gov/waterparks
