Athletes focus on future in Chapin HS Magnet Program

El Paso, Texas (KTSM ) - It's important to be focused in the game and in the classroom. That's why some athletes at Chapin High School are raising those standards to be the best through one magnet program.

Chapin's Pre-Engineering Magnet Program offers students a four year, six course program. They get hands on experience in engineering and technology based careers.

"It really throws you into the lifestyle that you're going to be in if you really want to be an engineer," Senior and Varsity Football Player Abraham Hernandez tells KTSM, "So it is a challenge to maintain good grades and be the best athlete I can be but that's something that I hold myself to do."

From Freshmen to Seniors, students in the program recommend younger students interested in the stem fields to start thinking about their future now.

"I'm always thinking about what I want to be in the future. I didn't know what I wanted so at the end I just decided to follow something that I already like," freshman Katy Ruiz shared, "I think it's important to have good grades in middle school. They're going to look at your 7th grade scores and then you can apply to it."
