Red Arrow Flight Academy, located at the Dona Ana County International Jet Port is one of the only privately owned flight academy in the area.
Red Arrow offers programs to earn your pilots license.
Students learn the basics in a full motion simulator, then take off in one of the Cessna 172 planes, to actually apply in the air what they learned in the simulator.
According to Red Arrow owner and flight instructor Tomas Peralta, all this training is important, especially right now.
“There’s actually a pilot shortage worldwide, it’s just a very in high demand job, so we’re trying to help and make sure that the pilots of the future are being made,” said Peralta.
He says that people lost interest in becoming pilots due to the pay, however, he says pilots now are paid much more.
Anyone of any age can learn to fly. Tomas says 15 is his recommended age but the only real requirement is to be tall enough to see over the dash.
“I think that’s awesome just the fact that there are so many people that can come and do this here it doesn’t matter if your young or your old or if you have a background of it or not,” said Jordan Morris a flight student.
Tomas opened red arrow five years ago and it has proven to have taken flight within the community.
